zareei’s work has been featured on creative applications, vice, streaming museum, fast company & design boom , and neural magazine. his piece Rasping Music was the recipient of the 1st prize for sound art at the sonic arts award 2015, and his installation Material Sequencer was shortlisted for the aesthetica art prize in 2024.
under the moniker mHz, zareei has collaborated with artists such as zimoun, loscil, matmos, nicolas bernier, and alba triana. his music has been released by room40 (au), line (us), important records (us), leerraum (ch), and kasuga records (de) and has been reviewed in the wire, a closer listen, boomkat, among others.
he holds a bsc in physics from shahid beheshti university of tehran, a bfa in music technology from california institute of the arts and a phd in sonic arts from victoria university of wellington, new zealand, where he is currently a lecturer in sonic arts.
mo H. zareei aka mHz is an iranian sound artist and researcher based in new zealand. his practice spans electronic compositions, kinetic sound-sculptures, and audiovisual installations. using custom-built software and hardware, his artistic, zareei’s work often aims to uncover the beauty in the fundamentals of sound and light production, and reductionist audiovisual elements that draw inspiration from physical and architectural principles.
